Driver dies in tractor-trailer crash on I-84 East in Southbury

A person has died in a tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 84 East in Southbury on Wednesday.

Troopers responded to I-84 East near exit 15 just after 5 a.m. for a collision involving a tractor-trailer.

The highway was closed between exits 14 and 15, and traffic was diverted off of exit 14.

Troopers said the vehicle veered into the median and crashed into a guardrail. It then veered right and crossed both lanes before going down an embankment and into a wooded area.

State police said a person died at the scene. Their identity is being withheld pending family notification.

More than five miles of congestion was reported in the area between exits 11 and 15.

The accident reconstruction team was called to the scene. The investigation is active and ongoing.
